William H. Astle, age 96, passed away on Feb. 6, 2023 at Kenwood Plaza, St. John, KS. He was born on April 29, 1926 in Haven, KS., the son of William Homer and Marie A. (Guhl) Astle. Bill was a resident of St. John since 1964. On Nov. 11, 1949, he married Doris Jean (Cadman) in Hutchinson, KS., she preceded him in death in 2012. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and worked as an oil field pumper throughout his life. He was a member of Antrim United Methodist Church, a life member of the VFW, a former member of the Lions Club, and St. John Saddle Club, and formerly was the treasurer for Rose Valley Township. Survivors include two sons, Chuck Astle, Pratt, KS, Jim (Debra) Astle, St. John, KS; a daughter, Ann Franco, Pratt, KS; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents; his wife; 2 step-brothers, Bob and Tom Cantwell; sisters, Dorothy Chain, Ruth Aleshire, and Mary Hardy. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tues, Feb. 14th at Minnis Chapel, St. John, KS. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Wed, Feb. 15th at the First United Methodist Church, St. John, KS with Pastors Benjamin Simba and Chris Taylor presiding. Burial with military honors will be 10:30 A.M. Thurs. Feb. 16th at the Laurel Cemetery, Haven, KS. Memorials may be given to Gentiva Hospice or First United Methodist Church in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS 67576
