Death Claims Civil War Vet
Alvin Nelson Passes at
Home as Result of
Apoplexy.
Alvin Nelson, a Civil war veteran and
a member of MCKINLEY post of the G.
A. R. of Billings, died of apoplexy at 8
o'clock Monday evening at his home at
517 South Thirty-fourth street, following
an illness of 11 days. He was a resident
of Montana for a quarter of a century.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been
made.
Mr. Nelson was born February 2, 1843
in Ash county North Carolina. At the
age of 19 he enlisted in Company I
of the Seventh Kentucky infantry, (an infantry
regiment that served the Union Army)
and served three years, receiving his dis-
charge at Louisville, October 5, 1864.
On February 15, 1874, he married
Martha E. (Emmaline) McFarland in Knox county,
Kentucky. Before coming to Montana in
1912, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson resided in
Kentucky for two and a half years.
Kansas for 19 years and Nebraska for
seven years. Besides his wife, Mr. Nelson is survived
by eight children,
Thomas M. Nelson, John Nelson, Mrs. Israel Street, Mrs. Roy
Hickman, Alvin Nelson, and George Nelson all
of Billings, and Mrs. Henry Darnell and Joe
Nelson of Nebraska. Mr. Nelson was a retired
farmer.

NELSON-Funeral Services for the late Alvin Nelson, husband of Mrs. Martha E. Nelson will take place this (Wednesday) afternoon at 3 O'clock at Smith's funeral home, the Rev. J. A. Peterson officiating. Interment in Mountview Cemetery.
