Mrs. Austin Gillespie, a pioneer resident of Dakota County,died suddenly Friday afternoon at her home in Vermillion from paralysis of the heart.
Her death coming as a shock to relatives and friends alike, as she was in her usual good health up to the day previous to her death.
She was born in 1836 in Co. Sligo, Ireland, where she spent the early part of her life, coming to America with her husband in the early days and settling in Vermillion where they have since resided.
She was a devout Christian, a devoted wife & mother, and was greatly esteemed by all who knew her. Besides her husband she is survived by one sister, Mrs. James Millett of this city, three sons and four daughters,
Patrick & Bridget of Saint Paul; John of Rosemount; Mrs. W.J Ryan, Mrs. Arthur Fahey, Austin & Catherine of Vermillion. There are thirty-eight grandchildren & four great grandchildren.
The funeral was held from St Agatha's Church, Vermillion, Monday at 10:30, Rev. Father McCabe of Inver Grove officiating.
Interment of St. Agatha's Cemetery. The pall bearers were
six grandsons, Austin J., Michael H., Jas A. Gillespie and Wm. A. Ryan of Saint Paul, Austin Gillespie of Rosemount & Arthur J. Fahey of Vermillion.
Among those in attendance at the funeral of Mrs. Austin Gillespie Monday were, Mr. & Mrs. P. Gillespie, Mr. & Mrs. A.J Gillespie, Mr. & Mrs. M.H Gillespie, Bridget & Jas. Gillespie, Mr & Mrs. Mark Gillespie & daughter Mary of Saint Paul; Mr. & Mrs. M.J O'Neil, Mr & Mrs. P.H. Carey, Mr. & Mrs. John Mullen, John Mulcahy, J.J Howley, Elizabeth and Delia Mullen of Minneapolis, W.H. O'Connell, H.M. Millett, Michael Murnane & Daniel Caneff of this city: W.J. Caneff, E.J. Doyle, Alice Caneff & J.J Caneff of Miesville.
