George L. Jensen of Salt Lake City, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, died July 1, 2009, in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 97.

He was born June 11, 1912, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Jorgen G. Jensen and Agnes J. Jensen. The second of three children, he grew up in Franklin County, Idaho, and graduated from Preston High School during the early days of the Depression.

George married Alice Gayle Fife on June 15, 1934, in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. They had seven children. He worked for the Works Progress Administration in 1935, as office manager for Fife & Co. Contractors for four years, and as clerk for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for three years. He moved to Idaho Falls in 1946, where he worked for Bonneville County as deputy auditor for two years. He was elected Bonneville County assessor and held that office for 18 years. He then served as a justice court judge for two years. His radio program, "Comments of the Day," aired for 11 years on KID radio during his time in Idaho Falls. In 1969, George and Gayle and their two youngest children moved to Salt Lake City, where he worked for the Utah state highway department until retirement.

He was a lifelong active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous leadership positions, including seven years as bishop of the Idaho Falls 13th Ward. Following his retirement, he and his wife served a mission for the LDS church in South Africa. He enjoyed many hobbies, including fishing, hunting, outdoor photography, wood-working and oil painting. He loved to dance and had a lifetime love of playing the harmonica and singing. He spent many hours teaching his grandchildren to sing his favorite songs with him. He belonged to several groups that entertained senior centers in the Salt Lake area.
