Mr. Smithson, an 81-year-old retired farmer of the Bates Hill community, was a member of the Church of Christ, a native of Cannon County and was married to the former Hester Bratcher who survived. He was a son of Clifton and Doshie Campbell Smithson. His first wife, Media Morgan, died in November of 1945. He was survived by two sons, a sister, a stepdaughter and three stepsons.
