Many sources claim this John Shade to be the son of John Adam Shade and grandson of Andreas Shade. However, along with the will of John Michael Shade Sr. is a power of attorney dated August 1831 from John (Johannes) Shade of Wayne Township, Mifflin County assigning his rights as co-executor to his brother, Michael Shade, of Upper Tulpehocken. There is only one John Shade living in Wayne Township (other than this one's son) at this time and he has a farm in Long Hollow up against Jack's Mountain. This seems to be clear evidence that this John Shade is the grandson of Andreas Shade through John Michael Shade rather than John Adam Shade.
