"Mrs. WACKEN Dies At Home-Mrs. Matilda WACKEN, Salem resident since l904 and a late resident of l550 Jefferson street, Salem, died Wednesday evening at her home.
Mrs. WACKEN, who had made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. MONNER of l550 Jefferson street, for the past l2 years, had been in ill health for about a year, but had been seriously ill and confined to her bed only two or three days.
Born in Russia June 24, l880, Mrs. WACKEN came to the United States with her parents as a girl in her teens and the family settled in California. She came to Oregon and Salem from California in l904, and most of the time after that lived on a farm in the Middle Grove area. Her husband, the late Herman WACKEN, died in l939.
Mrs. WACKEN was a member of the Bethel Baptist church and of the Woman's Missionary society of that church.
Survivors are the daughter with whom she resided, Mrs. L.J. (Mildred) MONNER; a son, Elmer L. WACKEN of Portland; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Mary CLINE of Independence and Mrs. Anna HUNTER in California; three stepsons, Rudolph H. WACKEN, Herman C. WACKEN and Theodore R. WACKEN, all of Salem; two sisters, Mrs. Julia MINCH of Salem and Mrs. Lillian SCHRUNK of Redmond; a brother, Emil STRIPLING of Bend; and l6 grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. WACKEN will be held at the Clough-Barrick chapel Saturday, December ll, at l:30 p.m. with Rev. Rudolph WCYKE officiating. Interment will be in the Howell cemetery." Daily Capital Journal Dec. 9, l954. Oregon Statesman Dec. l0, l954
