"Early Pioneer Dies; Funeral Set Monday-Mrs. Louisa JOHNSON, 90, who came across the plains at an early age and lived most of her entire life in Marion county, died Friday at the residence, Salem Route 6, Box 280, after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. JOHNSON was born at Penora, Ia., Jan l6, l865, and came west at the age of six months with her pioneer parents, Andrew and Sarah BRUMBAUGH. The family resided in the Hazel Green community for many years, then moved to the North Howell area about l6 years ago. Mrs. JOHNSON had lived there since.
She was married to Robert JOHNSON in Salem in l882 and he preceded her in death 30 years ago. Mrs. JOHNSON was a member of the Dunkard Church.
Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Amy BEER and Mrs. Ada SPENCER, both of North Howell; sons, Carl H. JOHNSON, Salem and Edgar A. JOHNSON, Hubbard; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday at l:30 p.m. in the Clough-Barrick chapel. Rev. M. E. ARN will officiate and interment will follow at Howell Cemetery." Oregon Statesman May l4, l955.

"Woman Who Crossed Plains in l865 Notes 90th Birthday-North Howell-Mrs. Louisa JOHNSON, who was born Jan. l6, l865, at Penoria, Iowa, and came to Marion county the same year, celebrated her 90th birthday Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Amy BEER, where a family dinner was given in her honor.
Mrs. JOHNSON'S parents, Sarah and Andrew BRUMBAUGH, and their six children crossed the plains with an ox team during the spring and summer of l865 and reached the Hazel Green district that fall where they took up a homestead and spent the rest of their lives.
Mrs. JOHNSON lived in the old home until l7 years ago when she moved to a small house near her daughter, Mrs. BEER, in North Howell. One of her cherished possessions is the little chair with rawhide seat in which her mother sat and held her while riding in the covered wagon.
Also present at the family dinner Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Art BJERKE and sons, Johnnie and Mike; Mrs. Hazel JOHNSON, Oregon City; Mrs. and Mrs. Floyd JOHNSON and daughter, Frances, Mill City; Mrs. Ada SPENCER and Donald PETERT." Oregon Statesman Jan. 2l, l955.
