Mr. Young died at 10:39 a.m. Friday (Oct. 17, 2008) at Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello. He was born Jan. 31, 1920, near Bondville, a son of George H. and Iva Mitchell Young. He married Marian L. "Mickey" Martin on March 3, 1946. She preceded him in death on Dec. 16, 2006.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Reidel (Steve) and a son, Richard Young (Ann), both of Monticello; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild. A son, Michael, one sister and four brothers preceded him in death.
Mr. Young was a retired farmer and member of the Monticello United Methodist Church and Fraternal Lodge 58. He had held past positions on the Unit 25 school board, the Forest Preserve Park Board, the Soil and Water Conservation District and with the Piatt Promenaders square-dance club. For many years he helped plan reunions and parade floats for the Monticello High School Class of 1938.
