OLD PIONEER GOES TO REWARD

Noah Albert Taggart, who passed away at Smoot, Friday January 18th and was buried in the Smoot Cemetery, Monday January 31st was one of the first settlers of Star Valley.
He was born in Salt Lake City, January 28, 1863 and lived during his early life in that city and later moved to Morgan City, Utah, where he was married at the age of 21 years to Sarah M. Kingston. Four years later he and family moved to Star Valley and entered a homestead in Smoot, where he continued to reside until his death a total of 36 years.
He was one of a family of 17 children and the father of twelve, seven boys and five girls. Five boys and three girls whom survive him. Three boys, Morg, Frank and Louis and one girl Jean are still at home with their mother on the original homestead. Albert H. married Phebe Eskleson of Richmond Utah, at which place they reside, Leon married Lola Eskleson a sister of Albert's wife and live at Smoot, Sarah Jane married H.E. Child and is located at Fairview, Wyo. Stella is the wife of P.P. Baldwin and they reside in Afton, Wyo,
"Dick" Taggert as he was familiarly known throughout the entire valley, was a man of sterling qualities being particularly known for his honesty and integrity, his word was as good as his bond. He was one of the pioneer developers and could rehearse the happenings in Star Valley from its early settlement to the present time.
He was a staunch Latter Day Saint and tried to live according to the teachings of the Church, and worked faithfully whenever he was called upon by authority and was a true and loving husband and father.
His wife and his children were by his side a the last, while the other two Albert and Leon, together with two of his brothers, Henry of Salt Lake City and James of Lewiston arrived in time for the funeral.
Funeral services were held in the Smoot Meeting House with Bishop C.H. Peterson presiding.
The choir under the direction of Geo W. Bruce furnished the music;
The opening prayer was offered by Elder W.W. Porter.
Bro W.W. Cranney was the first speaker. He gave some excellent thoughts on the purpose of life and said Dick Taggart was a good man and one of the best neighbors he had ever known.
Clarence Wilde followed along the same line as the former speakers and spoke of the strong testimony of Bro Taggqart.
Henry Taggart, James Taggart, Herbert Schwab and Bishop Peterson each spoke of their associations with the deceased.
Thomas Gomm offered the closing prayer.
