RIDEOUT, Hazel Elizabeth Johnson, 89, of Stony Creek, widow of Amos S. Rideout Sr., passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2010. She was born in Brunswick County on February 24, 1921, the daughter of the late Early and Josie Lee Johnson. Mrs. Rideout was a faithful, lifelong member of Concord United Methodist Church and a member of the Stony Creek Chapter of the Eastern Star #126. She was an inspiration and role model for her children and family. Survivors include one son, The Reverend Amos S. Rideout Jr. and wife, Moonyeen; three daughters, Elizabeth R. Chappell and husband, Duane, Sylvia R. Cravath and husband, James and Brenda R. Aberle and fianc‚, Patrik; eight grandchildren, Theresa C. Cook, Elizabeth R. Clark, Kristin R. Blankenship, Ray McFalls, John Cravath, Jay McFalls, Cheryl E. Murdock and Becky M. Crites; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane Lucy and husband, Alvin; a sister-in-law, Ada F. Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday (tonight) at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd., in Jarratt. A service of Death and Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Concord United Methodist Church, Stony Creek, Va., with Pastor Nathan Decker officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Concord United Methodist Church Capital Improvement Project, c/o Barry Grizzard, 4427 Hunt Rd., Jarratt, Va. 23867.
