Viola was raised on the family farm. They moved to Edgar, Nebraska, when she was a young girl. She attended Edgar schools and graduated from Edgar High School.
After graduation, she was united in marriage to Walter A. Pointer on September 9, 1935. They lived in Nelson for several years and in 1943 moved to Superior where Walter was employed as a clerk with the Champlin Petroleum Company. Viola was employed as a bookkeeper at Farmers Union Co-op for several years and Marlan Watson, CPA for several years. She was also a girl scout leader.
Viola enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing with Walter. She loved the outdoors and especially gathering wild plums which she made jelly from. She enjoyed concert, dinner theaters and was an avid shopper.
She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Walter, on January 21, 1974; and a brother, Arthur Dale West.
She is survived by her mother, Gladys Alkire of Lexington, Nebraska; three sisters, Joan Kroencke and her husband, Kenneth, of Grandview, Missouri, Ruby Mathews of Johnson Lake, Lexington, Nebraska, and Norma Nykodym and her husband, Ervin, of Lincoln, Nebraska; one brother, Martin West and his wife, Joan, of Hutchinson, Kansas; a very close, dear friend, Virginia Willett of Superior; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Graveside services were held Saturday, October 28, 1989, at 11:00 a.m. from Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Heydenberk officiating. Casketbearers were Marlan Watson, Sam Willett, Howard Mills, Kenneth Adams, Richard Hawkins and bob Mathews. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements.
