Daughter of Tobias & Susanna Bickel; 1st wife of Melvin Clark - they were married 03 August 1845 in Wayne County, Indiana. She and Melvin had three daughters Malinda, Sarah and Margaret Lydia. Melvin died in April of 1850 in Tipton County, Indiana when Susanna was just pregnant with her third daughter Margaret Lydia. Four years later on 08 March 1854 in Tipton County, Indiana, Susanna became the 2d wife of Jonathan Carey, a widower with seven children of his own. Jonathan and Susanna had five children together. They were Samuel V., Susanna, Joshua, Lydia Alice and William Luther.
After her marriage to Jonathan, Susanna and their blended families moved to Davis County, Iowa. It is there they lived out the rest of their lives - Jonathan passing away in 1897 at the age of 81. Susanna did live some of her remaining years with her adult children. She passed away at the age of
93 in Davis County.
