Services for Lucille Hamm, wife of Alvin F. Hamm—pioneer Southern Baptist Pastor in Arizona for 43 years—will be held at Evergreen Cemetery at 11:00 am on Monday, November 30. She passed away at Tucson Medical Center Hospice on November 26, 1998.


Mrs Hamm was born at Bomarton, Texas January 29, 1915, the last of nine children of Mr. and Mrs. James L Williams. She was a resident of Texas for 41 years and attended Texas Tech in Lubbock and Howard Payne College in Brownwood, Texas. She was Youth Director of District 9 in the Texas Baptist Convention before coming to Arizona with her husband in 1956. She then became the Youth Director of Cochise Association of the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention.


She became very active in the Southern Baptist Convention and served on the Senior Adult Executive Board the White Mountain Assoc. WMU Director, the Senior Adult Director for the Catalina Association of Tucson and was a member of the Pima Street Baptist Church where she began the Senior Adult ministry as well as an advisor to others in the Catalina Baptist Association. She also worked at Ft Huachuca and Davls-Monthan AFB from 1956-1970 at Post Engineers and the Department of Defense.


She is survived by her three children, Alvin W of Sherman, Texas, David N. of Oakhurst, California, and Melanie Miller of Tucson and nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
