John Reuben "Rube" Scott was born on 3 January 1894 near McLeansboro, Hamilton County, Illinois to William Sylvester and Nancy Hannah McMahan Scott. He married Sophia Esther Stevens on 10 January 1914 in Jackson, Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. There was one son born of their union prior to the death of Sophia Esther on 30 August 1916 in Fulton County, Illinois. Their son was Earl Sylvester Scott who died in 1999, and is buried in Morley Cemetery, Morley, Scott County, Missouri. They were my grandparents.

After the death of Sophia Esther, John Reuben Scott married Lattie Austin in Clay County, Arkansas on 13 March 1917. There were six children born of this union, William Bearl, James Edward, Carl Cleveland "Clevie," Vernice Vakel Scott Cook Trigg, Wilma Mae Scott Rickman Ihrig and one living.

John Reuben Scott's occupation was that of a farmer, moonshiner, and an oil field worker. His favorite hobby was "wolf hunting and coon hunting," with his hounds. He loved to hear them howl once they got on the scent and to call them back he would blow on a cow horn. If one got lost he would spend days looking for that hound. He loved to play the fiddle and when he was a young man he played for dances in Missouri and Arkansas. His first fiddle was one he made from a cigar box or so my father told me. Above picture is John Reuben "Rube" Scott and his sister Mary Elizabeth Scott Landers.
