Ross Broom or "Poppa" Ross as he was known to the youth of St. Mark, loved his church, his family and softball. For over 40 years, along with his wife, he worked with the your of the church. His numerous summer youth trips would often include broken buses or over-turned canoes. He coached and played softball and was instrumental, including with the team located within the Department of Corrections, Pre-Release Center in Church Leagues. One of his shining moments was striking out "Mr. Knozit." Coaching girls' fast pitch softball was a passion and for many a missed ball by an unlucky player, the sound of "get a stick andkill in" was heard.

Ross was designated head usher of St. Mark for over 30 years, greeting each woman of the church with a Sunday morning kiss! Sometimes even an unsuspecting male would receive one.

He worked for years with Pepsi Cola, then moved to the Colonial Baking Company and retired from Sara Lee.

Ross' humor and warmth touched many during his time and he will be missed.

The family asks that memorials be make to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 3200 Lyles Street, Columbia, SC.
