Steven Burghart, 62, of Baldwin City, Kansas died on July 10, 2023, at his home of pancreatic cancer.

He was born March 11, 1961, in Topeka, the son of Herman and Dorothy (Bieker) Burghart.

Steven was a clinical pharmacist at the University of Kansas Health System and was a well-respected educator and leader in psychiatric pharmacy. Steven was awarded a BS in Pharmacy from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy as well as an MBA from Baker University. He was board certified in psychiatric pharmacy by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties for more than twenty years. Steven was past president of the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists. He was also past chair of the Specialty Council on Psychiatric Pharmacy at the Board of Pharmacy Specialties. He also served on the board and volunteered on the Committee on Impaired Pharmacist Practice at the Kansas Pharmacists Association. Steven held an appointment as Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor at the KU School of Pharmacy and lectured at the school of pharmacy as well as to physician residents and fellows at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He has also presented at local, state, and national meetings. Steven was an author and co-author of several articles in peer-reviewed journals as well as author of a book chapter on psychiatric pharmacy. He was recipient of several awards including the Bill Bays Award from the Kansas Pharmacists Association, the Harold N. Godwin Lecture Award and twice recipient of the Board Award for Research from the Kansas Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Steven was also a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and served as an officer in several councils.

Steven enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren as well as running, sailing, singing in the church choir, classic cars and working on his farm.

Steven married on December 18, 1982, in Topeka. She survives. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Janice Borchert and one daughter, Marissa Burghart. Steven is survived by a sister, seven children, and six grandchildren.

Steven will lie in state on Saturday, July 15th where family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 15438 Leavenworth Road, Basehor, Kansas 66007. A parish rosary and chalice ceremony will occur at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas at 1:00 p.m.
