Theodore was the first-born child of John Howard Blauvelt and Caroline French Polhemus, born a year after they married. While no death records have been found, he was not living with the family at the 1850 US Census. Cemetery records for Oak Hill Cemetery, Nyack, indicate that J. Howard Blauvelt owned a large plot, possibly from the creation of the cemetery in 1848. Some records indicate that Theodore was the first burial in that plot.
