Reed was the son of S Buford & Lavina (O'Neal) Sumpter Massengale. They were married on March 4, 1885 in Bee, Texas.
Records demonstrate that he had 7 siblings: Rosalee (1888-1975), Reate (born 1889), Marcus Foster (1892-1931), Josephine Mamie (born 1892), Mamie C (1894-1976), Alvin (born 1906), and Wiburn E ((1908-1975).
There is documentation that Reed was in the military from at least 1917 to 1919 and spent some time at Fort Bend, Texas.
Additional Note of Interest: Lavina's father died when she was still an infant. Her mother remarried and Lavina grew up using her step-father's surname of Massengale.
