She is survived by her husband, James Monroe Gold of the home, a son, Steve Canipe and wife Carol of Shelby, NC, a sister, Dot Arrowood of Shelby, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born May 24, 1936 in Cleveland County, NC, Donnis was the daughter of the late Jacob Brackney Ashley and Mary Jane Brown Ashley and was preceded in death by her husbands, Willie Clement Canipe and Norel Kenneth Ware. She is also preceded in death by a brother, James Ashley and three sisters, Bonnie Jones, Frankie Patrick, and Ruby Clary.
Donnis was a loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt. She was a faithful member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Donnis enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and watching Atlanta Braves baseball. Donnis loved children and animals and they loved her. Donnis worked and retired after 34 years from Celanese Corporation.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00pm Monday, May 23, 2022 at Beaver Dam Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tom Runyon. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her first husband.
