Ruth was a 1943 graduate of William Penn High School and a 1947 graduate of Millersville State Teachers College. After receiving her Bachelor's Degree from Millersville, she went to work for and retired from the York City School District in 1986.
Ruth was a member of Advent Lutheran Church. She was a longtime volunteer at Martin Library. She was also a member of the York County Heritage Trust (now the York County History Center) and the York Symphony Auxiliary.
Ruth is survived by her daughters Jessica S. Jones, and her husband Michael, Kathryn S. Sowers, and Mary E. Sowers all of York. She is also survived by her grandchildren Megan E. Morningstar, and her husband Jerry and Kurt M. Jones, her 5 great-grandchildren, and her sister Jeanne Amberman of Towson, MD. She was preceded in death by her three sisters.
A private graveside service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held in Mount Rose Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
