LaVale, MD-

William “Bill” Franklin Heinrich, 94, of LaVale, MD, died Friday, February 5, 2021 at Devlin Manor Nursing Home.

Born May 14, 1926 in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late William Lester and Daisy (Layton) Heinrich.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Wilma “Jean” (Poling) Heinrich.

Bill was a graduate of Allegany High School and received a B.S. in Business from Lynchburg College.

Bill, under the GI Bill, forfeited half his senior year of high school, to enlist in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and served as an Arial Gunner.

Heinrich’s Men’s Clothing Store was started by Bill’s father in Downtown Cumberland, MD in 1934. Upon completion of college, Bill helped expand the business to include additional stores in Cumberland, LaVale, MD. Kingwood, Moorefield, WV, and Somerset, PA, providing Men’s, Women’s and Boy’s clothing until his retirement in 1989.

He belonged to Centre Street United Methodist Church; East Gate Lodge #216, A.F. & A.M.; 32nd. Degree, Cumberland Scottish Rite Bodies; and, Ali Ghan Shrine, where he was in the Highlanders Unit.

Survivors include his children, Della J. Judy and husband Wayne, Canton, GA, William F. Heinrich, II, Swanton, MD, and Charles “Scott” Heinrich and wife Jovy, LaVale, MD; a sister, Mary Ann Laffey, Greensburg, PA; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

As per his wishes, Mr. Heinrich will be cremated.

A memorial service and inurnment at MSVC-Rocky Gap will be announced at a later date.
