John Irvine Bennett, 80, of Hillview Drive, Westerly, died peacefully on Saturday, July 23, 2011, at The Westerly Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Lois (Prizito) Bennett.
Born in Westerly on Oct. 1, 1930, he was the son of the late George and Mabel (Butten) Bennett.
John retired from the American Velvet Company in Stonington.
After graduating from Stonington High School, he, served his country proudly during the Korean War and had been stationed in Seoul, South Korea.
John enjoyed fishing, bowling and golfing, and in recent years, some of his happiest time was spent with his great niece, Abigail Smith, and great nephew, Ethan Smith.
Besides his wife of 45 years, he also leaves his two brothers, Stanley and Edward Bennett, both of Pawcatuck, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, George Bennett, and sister, Elsie (Bennett) Parrilla.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Cobblestone Lane, Westerly. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
Please omit flowers. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly.
