GEORGE MURPHEY (box tomb)
In memory of
Who was born Apr 7 1774
and died Aug 11 1846
He was a native of Franklin Co NC. Migrated to Madison Co AL 1821 and was settled in this county in 1823. In early life he embraced religion and joined the M.E. church. His trust in God comforted him amid the sorrows and bereavements of life and sustained him in a dying hour. He has gone to that rest prepared for the finally faithful.

(Patriarch of family, husband of Mary Polly Kimbell, George built the hall and parlor type home that is on the National Historical Register, being preserved by Nucor, and is one of the earliest examples of this Atlantic Seaboard type building in Alabama.)
