Funeral services for John Marshall Danner, 408 North Fourth street, Sayre, pioneer resident since the city was founded, and retired business man, who died Monday in the Waynoka hospital following a heart attack, will be held Wednesday, June 10, at the First Methodist church at 2:30 p. m. with Rev. J. Ray Lawler, officiating.

Mr. Danner became ill while on a visit over memorial day in the home of his son, Melville Danner and family in Waynoka.

Born August 30, 1876, at Marshall Town,(sic) Iowa, Mr. Danner was married to Myrtle Melville, November 2, 1896, at Macon, Missouri. They came to western Oklahoma in 1899 with his father and brother and homesteaded on the Sayre townsite. He came to the vicinity overland by wagon train and his wife came a little later with an infant son, Melville, their first child.

He participated in the growth and activities of the lively town opening one of the first hotels and meat markets of Sayre. He operated the city market and grocery many years. He has been employed at Phillips Super Market and formally was with the United Super Market.

A charter member of the First Methodist church, he was a former member of the city council, and the Woodmen of the World.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Danner; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Itschner and Grace Danner; two brothers, Lewis and Charlie Danner.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Danner, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hood, Los Angeles, California; and Mrs. Eloise Gillum, Alexander, Virginia one son, Melville of Waynoka; five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Hugo Will, Rogers, Arkansas; one brother, Ocla(sic) Danner, Byers, Oklahoma.

Pall bearers will be George Stovall, Raymond Thomas, Phillip Andrews, Gene Hill, Marshall Gurley, John Salyer.

Committal will be in the Sayre Doxey cemetery with Moore Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
