Born in Norfolk, Virginia, the second of seven sons of William Hamilton Roberts and his first wife Sarah Mills Minton. During the Civil War, his father moved the family to Scotland Neck, North Carolina to live with an aunt of Sarah (Minton) Roberts. Sarah died in North Carolina in 1872. William Alexander Roberts married 6 Jan 1878 Ida Blount Grimmer. His father, William Hamilton Roberts married Ida's mother, Mrs. Lavenia Parker (Edmondson) Grimmer. Together the extended family moved to east Texas in 1870's. William Alexander and Ida had eleven children"
