LeeAnne Roberson Nichols, 67, of Chattanooga, died on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at her home bravely fighting a seven-year battle with metastatic renal cell cancer.

Born May 2, 1941 in Birmingham, Al., the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Lee Roberson, founders of Tennessee Temple College, she grew up and lived most of her life in Chattanooga.

After graduating from Chattanooga Central High School, LeeAnne went on to attend Tennessee Temple College, where she received her Bachelor’s degree, and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, earning a Master’s degree.

She married L. W. ("Buddy") Nichols in 1965 and had two children: a son, Rob, born in 1967, and a daughter, Caroline, born in 1970.

At Tennessee Temple University, LeeAnne was a British Literature instructor and a music professor. In 1976 she started The Ladies Chorale, a choir for college ladies at TTU. In the late 1980s, she started a small business known as Personally Yours, dedicated to providing hand-made, custom uniforms for school-related groups.

She was an enthusiastic lover of all things crafty. Together with her husband she was known to custom-craft any number of personalized Christmas, birthday, graduation, or anniversary presents, all of which her family continues to treasure.

To her family, what stands out is her legacy of music: from choir directing, to the church choir at Highland Park Baptist Church, to the sound of her piano playing downstairs late at night. Equally at home with Puccini, the Carpenters, or the "Great Hymns of the Faith," her gift of music has come to define her life for everyone privileged to know her.

A member of Woodland Park Baptist Church and Tyner United Methodist Church, her final years were marked by a demonstration of the quality of grace that she had received, a kind of grace that few of us will ever be able to fully understand.

In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Joy Roberson for whom Camp Joy was named.

She is survived by her husband, Buddy Nichols of Chattanooga; son, Rob Nichols and his wife Meghan of Atlanta; daughter, Caroline Rowell and her husband David Rowell of Hixson; grandchildren, Gabriella Joy Rowell and Ethan Curtis Rowell of Hixson; sister, June Ormesher and husband Bill of Dallas, Tx.; brother, John Roberson and wife Donna of Florence, Ky.; three nieces and six nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in Wesley Hall at Tyner United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Haskins and Rev. Jack Nichols officiating.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and from 6-8 p.m. at the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 8214 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lee Roberson Foundation.org in care of 2327 Red Tail Lane, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.

Arrangements are by the Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Brainerd Chapel, 8214 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
