WATERFORD John H. Mayo, 80, of Hudson River Road in Waterford died Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy embraced by his loving family. Born in Cohoes, he was the son of the late Paul Harry and Madeline Wood Mayo and beloved husband of Wanda Rosen Mayo of Waterford. John was a resident of Waterford for the past three years. He grew up in Cohoes and attended the former St. Agnes School and graduated from LaSalle Institute. He was a 12 year veteran of the United State Navy and the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He retired in 2007 as a transporter for the Eddy Rehabilitation Center in Cohoes, prior to that he was employed as a machinist from the Watervliet Arsenal. John enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Victoria Majewski of Jonesville, Lynn (Terry) Ryan of N.C., Michelle (Andrew) Rigney of Feura Bush, Jennifer (Jessy) Wilson of Selkirk, Paul H. (Sue) Mayo of Clifton Park, Mark (Andi) Mayo of Schenectady and John (Donna) Mayo of Rensselaer, stepson, James Evans of Fla.; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one step-grandson; brother, Michael C. Mayo of Clifton Park; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Christopher Mayo; sister, Barbara Barcher; and first wife, Jacqueline Forget Mayo. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ltd., 105 Vliet Blvd, Cohoes on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. with Reverend James A. Ebert officiating. Interment is private and at the convenience of the family. Those wishing to remember John may make contributions in his memory to The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Road., Rensselaer NY 12144.
