Paul Herschel Ellertson, 88, died January 2, 1997 at his home in Orem.


He was born September 16, 1908 in Mona, Utah, a son of Ephraim and Lona Loraine Swasey Ellertson. He married Mable Gertrude Dillingham on June 4, 1930 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mable died May 28, 1983.


Paul lived in Sacramento, California from 1935-1943. He also spent six years in Kamuela, Hawaii. He was a member of the Orem Riding Club and was organizer and first captain of the Utah County Sheriff's Posse. He was the architectural engineer for construction of St. Marks Hospital in Salt Lake City, the American Fork High School, Pleasant Grove High School, and the Utah Valley Medical Center addition. Paul served as project manager for Skidmore Owens & Merrill Architects on the construction of the Mauna Kea Beach hotel and golf course on the Island of Hawaii, Bank of America buildings in San Francisco and Sacramento, California, and he was also a general contractor in Orem.


Survivors include two sons and two daughters: Paul L. Ellertson, E., Robert Ellertson, Carol J. Thomas, and Mary L. Marchbank; and Norma Beasley, his loving companion for the last 14 years. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a sister, Martha Speakman. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, six sisters, and two grandsons.


Graveside services were held January 6, 1997 in the Orem City Cemetery, under the direction of the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary.
