Neola Gertrude Ellertson was born on August 12, 1884 in the small town of Mona, Utah. She was the oldest child born to Ephraim and Lona Swasey Ellertson. She was a gifted musician and completed the prescribed course of study in vocal music at Brigham Young University in 1907. She had the contralto lead in several operas and traveled with a performing group that went by train from town to town.

In 1910 she was called to serve a mission in Hawaii for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Here, she taught music and learned to speak the Hawaiian language. When she returned home, she met and married George Franklin Olson. They made their home in Fairview, Utah where he taught school. They raised seven children--Georgia, Boyd, Cleo, Neola, Heber, Lona and George Jr.

She was a fun, hard-working, and spiritual woman who willingly served and shared her talents.

She passed away on August 9, 1969 in Mesa, Arizona
