Catherine is a daughter of Peder Pederson (1795-1845) and Ellen Margaretha Hansen - the seventh of their nine children. Catherine's father died when she was eight years old. Her mother remarried four years later to Jens Peter Marker. Together they brought the family to America in 1853 and settled in Manti, Utah.

Catherine married George Kofoed Reese on August 24, 1856 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They became parents to nine children: George Kofoed, Emma Theresa, William Wego, Edillo Essido (Dillie or Isadora), Willard Richard, Hans Serrius, Oscar Junius, Abraham Alonzo, and Ellen Nora Christine.

George died in 1911. Catherine lived to age 84.
