Ruth "Ruthie" Adell Godfrey, age 92, passed away at Parkcliffe Community on April 6, 2017. She was born December 23, 1924 in Perrysburg, Ohio to Gladys and James Laing and was one of five children. Ruth graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1942 and went on to study music at Western College in Oxford, OH. Her appreciation of music continued throughout life, singing in church and community choirs. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Toledo and later, St. Patrick's of Heatherdowns. Ruth also had a love of nature and children leading her to a long involvement with both the Boy and Girl Scouts. There were also many trips to Canada and rock hunting that often required you to "lick the rock" to see the beautiful colors. Ruth married Ralph Warren Godfrey in Georgia on October 30, 1946. She and her husband opened the Hi-Level Country Store in 1966, at the foot of the Hi-Level Bridge in Toledo, OH. It was the first store in Ohio to be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Later in life she worked at Photonics in Northwood, OH for 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; sister, Janie; and brothers, Eddie and Malcolm. Ruth is survived by her five children, Geof (Karen) Godfrey, Tara (Peter) Pinello, Marki (Larry) Sawyer, Brandt (Eva) Godfrey, and Vann Godfrey; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Carol Melvin.
