Josephine “Josie” (D’Gerolamo) Alongi, aged 101 years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at Nemasket Health Care Center, Middleboro, Massachusetts, after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late Dominic Alongi, who predeceased her in 1990. Born on August 7, 1909, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Bessie (Ropolo) D’Gerolamo.

Before her retirement, Josie worked at Prince Castle Ice Cream, Rockford Hosiery Company, and the National Lock and Key Company, all in Rockford, Illinois. After her retirement, she moved to Lakeville, Massachusetts, in the early 1980s, and was a communicant of Saints Martha & Mary Church in Lakeville.

She will also be remembered as a devoted Catholic, and was known to be heavily involved in the annual St. Joseph’s Day Feast. She was a member of the National Catholic Foresters.

Josie loved to bake and spend quality time with her family. She will be warmly remembered as a devoted wife, mother, beloved grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Survivors include: two grandsons; Michael Walker and Mark Walker; great grandchildren; Rachel, Christopher, Alexander, Cassondra, and Ayden; sister-in-law, Joan D’Gerolamo; nieces and nephews.

She was the last surviving child of eleven, and mother of the late Barbara Noll and Judy Alongi.

Graveside service on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
