"The Death of Washington Ford.
The older citizens of Natchez are rapidly passing away, and scarce a week rolls around that the painful duty is not devolved upon us of announcing that another of the links of the golden chain that binds the present with the past is lost. Mr. Washington Ford is the last who has "wrapped the drapery of his couch about him and lain down to rest." After a long and painful illness he died in this city yesterday afternoon at the ripe old age of seventy-four years. Mr. Ford was a native of Kentucky [/sic/], but had resided in Natchez and Adams county for very many years past, and was both before and since the war an extensive cotton planter. His landed possessions were quite large, and prior to the war he was considered a very wealthy man, but much of his means were swept away with that of other ante-bellum planters. A moderate degree of success however, attended his efforts in rebuilding his fortunes, and the last days of his life were spent comfortably. He had many friends who will hear with regret of his untimely demise.

"The Death of Washington Ford," /Weekly Democrat/, Natchez, Mississippi, 19 October 1887, page [3], col. 2

Notes:
Mr. Ford died of "malarial poisoning" at Natchez, Mississippi, on 11 October 1887, aged seventy-four years, and was buried at the Natchez City Cemetery.

U.S. census records for Mr. Ford in 1850 (Adams Co., Miss.), 1860 (Adams Co., Miss., and Philadelphia Co., Penn.), and 1880 (Adams Co., Miss.), for which he would likely have served as informant, report Mississippi as his birthplace.
His obituary, for which the informant is unknown, reports Kentucky as his birthplace.
His marriage record, for which he would likely have served as informant, reports that he was "of Maysville, Kentucky," meaning that he resided there at the time of his marriage in 1840. It does not identify his birthplace.
