John Mital, 86, of Maple Grove Road, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007 in his home. He was born Dec. 25, 1920 to George and Anna Mital in Minneapolis. John was an Army veteran of World War II in the 10th Armored Division at Fort Benning, GA and Camp Gordon, GA. He served in Metz-Battle of the Bulge. John was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He was also a member of the Army Reserve from 1948-1952. He married Dorothy Klouda on Dec. 3, 1949 in Minneapolis. He was a printing pressman for Davidson Printing in Duluth. He was a former member of Faith Lutheran Church and currently a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, member of Lester River AARP, United Sportsman, NRA and VFW. John enjoyed his family, gardening, dogs, camping, jogging, fishing, reading, shooting, music and his strong faith in the Lord. He enjoyed singing in the choir at Faith Lutheran Church and formerly at Westminister Presbyterian Church and the John Duss Choral Society, and playing on his key board and was a deacon at Faith Lutheran Church for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy and Ann; brothers, George and Danny. John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy; daughter, Marilyn (Danny) Kunze of Duluth; sons, David (Cathleen) of Carson City, Nev., James (Cynthia) of Moscow, Idaho; five grandchildren, Paul Kunze of El Paso, Texas, Kristin Carlson and Amy Gallager of Duluth, Jennifer and Nathan Mital of Carson City, Nev.; and two great grandchildren Ethan and Hope Carlson of Duluth; a brother, Andrew; sisters, Emma, Ruth, Betty, Peggy and Mary. A special thank you to St. Mary's Hospice especially Eva and Nancy. VISITATION:12 noon Monday Jan. 15, until the 1 p.m. Funeral Service in Holy Cross Lutheran Church located at 410 N. Arlington Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice, Salvation Army or Animal Allies. Burial Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard. Arrangements are by Sunrise Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Hermantown, MN. Walker, MN.
