Howard H Heyland, 83, of Springfield died at 12:20 a.m. Sunday at St. John's Hospital. Born in DeKalb, Mr. Heyland was the son of the late Thomas Edmun and Mabel Clare Kikendall Heyland. He married Irene G. Stites in 1929 in Springfield. Before his retirement in 1969, he was employed by The State Journal-Register.
Preceding him in death were a daughter, Sybil Clare; and two brothers.
Mr. Heyland was a member of the Cherry Hills Baptist Church and a former member of the South Seventh Street Baptist Church for 52 years, where he served as financial secretary for seven years and also served as deacon and trustee. He was a 62-year member of the International Typographical Union.
Surviving are his wife, Irene; one daughter, Mrs. W. David (Karen) Stroemer of Peoria; one brother, Juel C. of Springfield; one sister, Mrs. Beulah Danner of Springfield; two grandsons.
Services at Cherry Hills Baptist Church. Burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
