PIONEER LUMBERMAN DEAD

Tupper Lake Loses Good Citizen in Death of Joseph Trudeau

Joseph Trudeau, 68 years of age, died at his home in this village at 6:15 o'clock Thursday evening after an illness of but a few months.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday morning from St. Alphonsus R. C. Church, Rev. Father Edouard Hervieux (not sure is that spelled right), officiating. Interment in this Roman Catholic Cemetery here.

Mr. Trudeau was born at Valleyfield, P. Q. August 30, 1847. At 13 years of age, he came to Malone, where he resided several years, when he went to Lyon Mt., near Plattsburg and engaged with the Chateaugay Iron & Ore Company, taking up the occupation of stone mason at which he became an expert.

In 1869 he united in marriage with Matilda Roberts of Lyon Mt., and 25 years ago the couple moved to Tupper Lake. This place was then in the embryo stage and Mr. Trudeau engaged with the pioneer lumberman and railroad builder, John Hurd, and assisted in the construction of the largest and now well known saw mill which has been successively operated by several large lumber companies including the Norwood Manufacturing Company, which firm sold out to the Santa Clara Lumber Company, the present owners and operators.

By honest, faithful service, Mr. Trudeau won the respect of his employers and fellow citizens, from whom are heard many expressions of regret and sympathy over his demise.

To Mr. and Mrs. Trudeau have been born 15 children, eight of whom are living to comfort the bereaved widow: Four sons, Leon, William, Adelbert, Orville, all residing in Tupper Lake; four daughters, Mrs. Delia Foisia, of Tupper Lake Junction; Mrs. Adelaide Burns of Patterson, N. J.; Mrs. Carried Parent of Montreal, P. Q.; Mrs. Mina Snell of Tupper Lake.
