On July 29, 1856 he married Wilhelmina Stephan and during the war he and his wife came to Richmond township, Osceola county, Michigan and settled on 160 acres of land near Hersey, of which he cleared up 50 acres. In 1868 he homesteaded 80 acres of land on section 18, which he also cleared up, and on which he lived until 1896, when he and his wife moved to town, occupying his residence on Stimson ave. until his wife's death on Dec. 12, 1903. His wife's request was before she died , to go back on the homestead and live with her son Dan, which he did. The funeral was held at the St. Paul church, of which church he was a consistant and hard working member.
