Marie was the daughter of Charles Laveau a wealthy white planter and Plantation owner and Marquerite Darcantrel a Creole and a free woman of color. Maria Laveau was 18 years of age when she married Jacques Paris Which he disappeared three year after their marriage, believed to have gone to Baton Rouge, to seek work and died of yellow fever on his fishing boat, and yellow fever has killed many people at that time... No one knew where he went missing at and not long afterward Marie began referring to herself as "Widow Paris". And soon afterward took up employment as a hair dresser to the New Orleans wealthy olite and soon after met Christopher Dominick de Glapion.
