VLASIDIS, George, 72, of Richmond, Va., joined his Heavenly Father Tuesday, July 26, 2016. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Lucas Sarantakos. He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Effie Vlasidis.

George was born in Athens, Greece, immigrated to New York, New York at the age of 17, and proudly served in the United States Army. He loved this country and was proud of being a Greek American. George was a successful entrepreneur who owned several restaurants and real estate. First and foremost, he was a devoted family man who loved and taught his children strong family values and work ethic. He was an avid soccer player, the life of the party, and the most loyal friend to all. George will be missed by all that he touched. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, at Bliley's-Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., with a Trisagion Prayer Service. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, August 1, at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Malvern Ave., Richmond, Va. Interment will follow in Westhampton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Children's Hospital of King's Daughters, 601 Children's Ln., Norfolk, Va. 23507.
