Lawyer.


John Lawyer, son of Michael and Sarah Lawyer, was born in the state of Ohio on Sept. 17, 1827 and passed away at his late home in Tennessee, Ill., May 19, 1913, aged 85 years, 8 months and 2 days.


When 10 years of age he came with his parents to McDonough County, Ill., where he has since resided. On Nov. 10, 1850, he was united in marriage to Rebecca J. Jackson. To this union was [sic] born four children, W. B. and A. M. Lawyer of Tennessee, Ill., Mrs. Sarah Wear and Sina Carson both deceased. He is survived by two brothers and two sisters, Wm. Lawyer, Quincy, Ill.; T. B. Lawyer, Columbus, Kan.; Mrs. Elizabeth Gibson, Neosha, Kan. and Mrs. Thos. Monk, Plymouth, Ill[.] He also leaves twelve grand-children [sic] and seven great grand children [sic], besides a host of friends who deeply feel his love.


He was converted and joined the Christian church about fifteen years ago under the preaching of F. M. Branic[,] remaining loyal until the end. In his last moments he often spoke to loved ones of his great desire and willingness to enter eternal rest.


His kindly disposition and love of humor endeared him to the hearts of all those with whom he came in contact.


Funeral was conducted from the Baptist church at Tennessee, Ill., Wednesday May 21 at 10 a.m., Rev. Branic officiating. Interment in Hutchison cemetery.
