Nelson married Margaret Craig in Jay Co., IN on Dec. 10,1886. She was the daughter of John J.L. and Nancy Craig. Margaret was born Sept. 1866 and died sometime after the 1900 census.

Nelson married again on July 3,1907 to Venora "Nora" Clevenger of Randolph Co., IN. They moved their family to Henry Co., IN by the 1910 census.
