Berwick Woman Dies Few Hours After Husband

A Berwick woman whose husband died of a heart condition on Saturday afternoon at four o'clock, died of the same ailment five and one-half hours later.

The deaths of William Tyson Flick, eighty-two, and his wife, the former Catherine Lanning, seventy-seven, of 1225 Orange Street, Berwick, were attributed to heart attacks.

Although both had been in poor health for a number of years and had been under the care of a physician, their deaths were sudden and unexpected.

Mr. Flick, in apparent usual health, retired to his bedroom when death occurred.

His wife died suddenly while sitting on a chair in the kitchen of the Flick home. About three hours previously, she had conversed with Willard Kelchner, Berwick funeral director, concerning arrangements for her husband. At that time, she showed no signs of critical health.

Mr. Flick was born in Danville RD and had resided in Berwick for the past fifty-three years. He had been a blacksmith by trade and had been employed at the Berwick AC&F for many years, retiring nine years ago. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and the Berwick Lodge of Odd Fellows.

Mrs. Flick was born in Salem Township and resided in Berwick her entire lifetime. She was a member of St. Paul's EUB Church and had been ill for the past five years.

Surviving Mr. Flick are the following children: Mrs. Parvin Kershner, of Berwick; Mrs. Robert Stephens, of Hatboro, Pennsylvania; Mrs. Harry Doty, of Bloomsburg and Clark Flick, of Schnectady, New York; seventeen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren also survive. A grandson: Clyde Flick, of Hatboro, was raised by Mr. Flick. Brothers and sisters surviving are Gabriel Flick, of Millison, Ohio; David Flick, of Milton, and Mrs. Elwood Crosley, of Bloomsburg RD. Step-children surviving are: Mrs. Emma Samsel, of Hanford, California; Mrs. John Pressler, of Berwick; Carl Lanning, of Philadelphia; Mrs. Harold Lowery, of Berwick; Mrs. William Eifert, of Bloomsburg; Mrs Webster Taylor, of Mifflinville; Harvey Lanning, of Dubois. Twenty-three step grandchildren and twenty-four step great-grandchildren also survive.

Surviving Mrs. Flick are her children, same as listed as step-children, of Mr. Flick; and her step-children, same as children listed surviving Mr. Flick; and the following sister and brothers: Mrs. Fannie Lanning, of Berwick; Christopher Lynn, of Danville and Joseph Lynn, of Berwick.

Double funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at two from the Kelchner Funeral Home, Berwick. Rev. H. R. Shipe, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, and Rev. W. L. Baughman, pastor of St. Paul's EUB Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Market Street.
