Max J Simpson, 93, died at 8:15 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2015, in his home. He was born to Claude and Lula (McKibben) Simpson on April 25, 1922. He married Deborah B. Butcher in 1943 in Denver, CO. Deborah passed away May 28, 2014. He graduated from Clay High School in 1940. Max was a farmer, he hauled livestock, lime, gravel, was a substitute bus driver, a rural mail carrier and was a member of American legion. Max loved to hunt, camp, travel, fish, fly kites and spend time with his family. Staff Sgt. Max Simpson, 376 heavy bombardment group, 15 Squadron, Army Air Force, a World War II hero, flew 50 missions out of nine different countries as a gunner in a B-24. Survivors include his two children, Max R. (Kim) Simpson, Sharpsville, Gloria Simpson Morelock, and friend Dallas Wilson, Goshen; four grandchildren, Troy (Lori) Moss, Jason Simpson, Liberty (Will) Tindle and Corina Morelock; eight great-grandchildren, August, Alex, Zoey, Dreagon, Logan, Coldin, Gryphon and Emery; and one great-great-grandchild, Yagamy Nicholas. His parents and three brothers, Ned, Lee and Joe Simpson and wife, Deborah, preceded him in death. Calling for family and friends will be from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon Thursday at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown, with Pastor Jeff Harlow officiating. Burial will follow the service at 1 p.m. in Marion National Cemetery, Marion, with military rites by the U.S. Army and the Kokomo Military Rites team. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans Foundation.
