Henry served in World War 1. 370th Infantry, F Company, the only unit led by Black officers.

Henry and Vivian Wesson were African-American members of the Baha'i Faith in Chicago. Vivian was taught by Corinne True. When Henry died in 1951, Vivian became a pioneer for the Baha'i Faith in Africa. She is buried in California. They had one son, James J. Wesson
