LEEDS - David Glenn Beal, age 90, died Friday, May 3, 2002, in Kanab, Utah. Glenn was born October 18, 1911, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Dr. David Oral and Mary Elizabeth Olsen Beal. During his early years, Glenn lived in Overton, Nevada, where his father practiced medicine. While his parents helped in the medical field during World War I, Glenn lived with his Beal grandparents and attended school in Ephraim, Utah.

When his parents returned from the war, they lived in Tremonton, Utah, where Glenn attended school. His parents divorced and he went to live with his Olsen grandparents in Leeds and attended school there. Glenn moved to Silver Reef when his mother married Alex Colbath. He soon moved to Cedar City where he attended high school. Returning to Silver Reef as a caretaker hired by Mr. Colbath, Glenn enjoyed life as a bachelor for a few years. One day Wilma Cox, from Alton, Utah, showed up at the old Naegle place in Leeds to help her sister who had just had a new baby. Glenn's bachelor days were over. After two and one-half long weeks of courtship, Glenn and Wilma were married on July 9, 1934. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple on June 25, 1952. Glenn and Wilma lived in Silver Reef for twelve years and then moved to the old Naegle place where they first met. It was there that they built their new home and lived throughout their married life. For many years Glenn and Wilma were co-owners of Tri-State Office; Music Supply, located on Tabernacle Street in St. George.

Glenn had a great sense of humor and was an excellent storyteller. He loved Silver Reef and for years he conducted historical tours for all of the students in Washington County. He also drove school bus for many years. Glenn was a man's man, a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Glenn was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He served in many callings which included serving in two bishoprics. He fulfilled part of his civic duty by serving as mayor of Leeds. Surviving family members include his children, two sons and two daughters, Ray (Verlynn) Beal and Alex (Jean) Beal, both of Leeds, Utah, Billie (Royal) Blake of St. George, UT and Neidra Welch of Kanab, Utah; twenty-two grandchildren; and forty great-grandchildren. Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, who passed away September 2, 1999; one son, Keith; a grandson, Brent; and a great-grandson, R.J. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 9, 2002, at
