Amanda Brown, daughter of Michael and Almira (Dinwiddie) Brown, was born near West Sonora, Preble County, Ohio.

She was the seventh child of a family of ten children; her siblings being: Ida May Brown, Frank Stanley Brown, Orange Goldsmith Brown, Carrie Day Brown, Zella Rae Brown, Charles Brown, Myrtle C Brown, Osborn Brown, and Augustus Wilson Brown.

She lived at the place of her birth until October 28, 1903, when she was united in marriage to Earl Gebhart, from a nearby community, by the Rev. Fowler at Ithaca, Darke County, Ohio. After their marriage, they lived nearly a year in Dayton, returning to the West Sonora community, where she lived her lifetime, having lived at her late home for the past forty-one years.

Five children were born to bless this home, James Adrian Gebhart, Odessa Gebhart, Darryl Leon Gebhart, Karl Brown Gebhart, and Ruth Gebhart. The family chain was first broken when son, Darryl Leon died in 1912, at the age of 2 years. Amanda and her husband and family were highly respected in their community. Their quiet life was cherished by their many neighbors and friends.

Amanda united with the West Sonora Evangelical United Brethren Church when in her youth, and was a member at the time of her death. Death came to Amanda after a number of years of illness, including diabetes. For the past seven years, she had been blind and confined to her wheel chair, being cared for by her family. Her husband soon was adapted to his task as a practical nurse and housekeeper. To this she commented many times her deep appreciation.

Amanda lived the life span of 81 years, 1 month, 25 days. Besides her husband and children, she was survived by eight grandchildren: Robert Gebhart, Nancy Prass, Ellen, Marie, Gary, and Roger Gebhart, and Michael and Mark Smith. A brother, A.W. Brown, of Arcanum, as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends also survive.

She was interned on Monday, February 11, 1959, the Kramer Funeral Home of Lewisburg, Preble County, Ohio, and Rev. Harley Brown, West Sonora EUB, provided the services.
