CAREER OF MOUNT PLEASANT PIONEER CITIZEN ENDED
..... 85 years of age, a pioneer resident of this city, died at his home last night. He was a native of Denmark, coming to Utah when a young man.
Mr. JENSEN is survived by two sons and three daughters, Mrs. Catherine BLACK of Spring City, Mrs. Charlotte STRATE of Alberta, Canada; James JENSEN of Blackfoot, Idaho; John JENSEN, and Miss Anna JENSEN of Mount Pleasant.
• • Jens Christen Jensen was born in 1836 in Hollensted, Hallund, Hjorring, Denmark. He was the son of Jens Andersen and Maren Christensen. Jens was baptized into the LDS church in 1854 and immigrated to Utah a year later. Jens immigrated with his step-mother, Maren Andersen Sorensen, and her family which included two of Jens' half-brothers. They passed through Ellis Island on their way to Utah. Previous companies of Danish saints had immigrated through New Orleans. The company Jens was with crossed the plains using handcarts and arrived in Utah in September of 1856. Jens settled first in South Weber, but moved to Mount Pleasant, Sanpete County, in 1859.
In November of 1861 Jens and Margarethe were married in the endowment house in Salt Lake City. They settled in Mt. Pleasant and had five children: Trena born in 1862, James Christian born in 1864, Martha born in 1867 and died just before her fourth birthday, Mary Christina Cecelia born in 1869, and Lena Leota born in 1872.
Jens and Margarethe divorced and she married Jacob Johnson (originally Jensen).
Jens married Anna Katrina Miller and they had one child, a daughter named Mary. Anna Katrina died a week after the baby was born. Jens remarried, this time to Annie Marie Christoffersen in 1876. They had four children: Kate Dianthe, twin girls one of which died at birth and Annie Christena, and Venese Wilcox. All these children are buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery along with their mother who died in 1904.
Jens died in 1922 and was buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery next to his wives and children.

Margarethe Andersen was born in Fristrup, Aalborg, Denmark in 1844. She was the daughter of Anders Andersen and Mette Christensen. She had a sister, Mette. Her mother remarried Niels Christensen and had four more children. Mette and Niels and all six children joined the church and immigrated to Utah in 1861, ultimately settling in Spring City. Jens and Margarethe divorced and she married Jacob Johnson (originally Jensen). They had five children: Jennes Roger, Jacob Morgan, Andrew Seymore, Joseph Arthur and an unnamed baby that died shortly after birth in 1885. Margarethe died in childbirth and was buried with the baby in the Spring City Cemetery.
