Francis "Frank" "Fats" Coleman was born on July 13, 1890, in New York, to John Coleman and Ann Alice Bromilow. He married Ella Gertrude Hope on October 24, 1909, in New York City, New York. They had seven children; Mae (Coleman) Leonard, Ann (Coleman) Murphy, Francis Coleman, John Coleman, Harry Coleman and Walter Coleman. An additional son died shortly after being born. Francis died on November 10, 1978, in Huntington Station, New York, at the age of 88, and was buried in Huntington, New York.
