Dawn Marie Ligda (Jones), 37, was granted her angel wings on April 8, 2014, while her family stood by her side in Chicago.
She was born Feb. 24, 1977, in Michigan City, Ind., to Donna Sue Slayden and Kent Daniel Jones.
Her father preceded her in death and her mother resides in Michigan City.
Dawn lived her life in her hometown of Michigan City. She attended Elston High School and Ivy Technical Institute where she obtained multiple degrees in the medical and information technology fields. She was employed as a medical assistant for IU Health; however her proudest achievement was the birth of her son Logan Preston Corban on August 8, 2001.
She later met and eventually married her husband James Michael Ligda, who remains in Michigan City with their son.
She was an active member of the Faith City Assembly of God Church and she spent much of her time giving back to charities including the American Cancer Society.
Her interests centered on family, parenting, gardening and reading. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members and helping people in any way she could.
Dawn was the ultimate big sister and is survived by her siblings Brittany Grace, Darrin Jones, Sherry (Charlie) Jones-Pitts, Kent (Melissa) Jones and Shawn (Angela) Grace. Her stepmother Laura Jones also survives in Hermitage, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her father Kent Jones and her grandparents Betty and JC Slayden.
Dawn's life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of her existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which she was with us. Her beautiful smile and loving heart brought so much joy to her family and friends
